Security at Durham

We take the safety and wellbeing of our community seriously and are available 365 days a year 24/7 to support with your security needs.

Whether you’re a student, staff member or visitor, our Security Team are here to help. Our campus has CCTV and Security Officers who patrol the campus 24 hours a day. Security can be contacted on: +44 (0)191 334 2222 or via the SafeZone App. In an emergency, always ring 999.

SafeZone

SafeZone is a free to download safety app available to all ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp staff and students, which connects you directly to the University security team should you require assistance.

Campus security advice 

Whilst the University will do all that it can to ensure you are safe and secure on campus, try to make sure you do all you can to remain safe and secure too. 

  • Home security: Always lock windows and doors when leaving a room or property. 
  • Never leave personal items unattended: Avoid leaving phones, keys, wallets etc in unlocked drawers or in coat/ jacket pockets. 
  • Bike security: Always lock bikes with secure D locks, in designated bike sheds where possible.
  • Reporting theft: Report theft or suspected theft to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵappPolice and ¼â½ÐÊÓƵapp Security. 
  • Computer security: Always lock a computer when not in use using secure passwords.
  • Security at night: Avoid walking alone where possible and stick to well-lit routes -
  • ID/ campus cards: Carry your staff and student ID on your person at all times.
  • Emergency contacts: Keep a list of emergency contacts in your phone, including our Security number +44 (0)191 334 2222.
